In this universe, Gyda survived the plague that killed nearly all of her village-including her mother. The shock of what happened and of loosing her mother forced Gyda to mature fast even for her era. Though she resigned herself to Ragnar's second marriage, that he cheated on and had a child with another woman while they were away, she never fully accepted Aslaug as her step-mother, instead relying on Siggy as a surrogate. In the following years and witnessing her father's adventures, she eventually married the earl of a neighboring village, content to be the one to tell her family's stories.

Always quiet and unassuming, Gyda had grown more guarded since her mother's death, and since the dangers following into Kattegat (and her uncle's urgings) she has made a habit of carrying a dagger or some other weapon on her. Her fascination with new worlds and stories is the only reason she travels, not glory in battle-it's a habit of hers to collect small, notable items from the lands she visits, not for wealth, but memories. She's the one member of her family content with remaining at home to oversee her people, the boats and harvests, understanding that life goes on even as there are raids and battles. Daughter of warriors and eventual wife of an earl, she had eventually received the name 'The Gentle' because of her reluctance to take up the shield except in defense of her home and family.

Milli-canon
Gyda was brought to Milliways after her Death in finale of season 1. Though she was soon reunited with friends and various members of her family when the Door showed up for them, the rules of the place dictated that she might only visit Outside for three days, and otherwise consider Milliways her home. That was until various connections and inquiring had connected her with the demigod Abe no Seimei, who used a ritual to regrow and connect her soul to a new body-on the condition that her father protect and spare the children of an enemy.

She's since then been adopted by the immortal Ganymede, and is happy to have a nearly* settled life outside of milliways.

*Being immortal, her foster father will occasionally move from location to location, and she with him-but not so often as she'll have to constantly change schools in the middle of the term.
